A boil water advisory has been issued for properties along Parliament Drive in Alexandria, Louisiana. The advisory comes after a loss of pressure to an 8-inch water line during repair work, according to Barrett Dezendorf, Superintendent Water Operations.

The Alexandria Water Department is recommending that all consumers in the affected area disinfect their water before use. “Because water pressure was lost during the repair process, the water in the affected area may have been compromised,” said Dezendorf.

“As a precaution, the Alexandria Water Department is issuing a boil advisory effective immediately. This boil advisory is to remain in effect until otherwise noted. The boil water advisory is issued for customers located in the area described below: All the properties along Parliament Dr. that are highlighted in the attached map. (Please see attached detail map),” Dezendorf stated.

Residents and businesses are advised to bring water to a rolling boil for one full minute before consuming it or using it for food preparation and other purposes such as brushing teeth or making ice. Dezendorf also noted ways to improve taste after boiling: “Shaking can eliminate the flat taste of the water, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.”

Once the advisory is lifted, those affected should take steps such as running cold-water faucets and drinking fountains for one minute, flushing automatic icemakers by discarding three batches of ice, running water softeners through a regeneration cycle, and running direct-connection water coolers for five minutes.

The boil advisory will remain in place until further notice from city officials.
