A boil water advisory has been issued for properties along Windermere Blvd. in Alexandria, Louisiana, following a loss of pressure to an 8-inch water line. Barrett Dezendorf, Superintendent of Water Operations, stated that the advisory is being put in place as a precaution after water pressure was lost during repairs, which may have compromised the water quality in the affected area.

“Because water pressure was lost during the repair process, the water in the affected area may have been compromised,” said Dezendorf.

The Alexandria Water Department recommends that all consumers within the advisory area disinfect their water before use. This includes drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, preparing food, or rinsing foods. The suggested method is to boil water for one full minute in a clean container after it reaches a rolling boil. To improve taste after boiling, residents can shake the water or pour it between containers or add a small pinch of salt per quart.

“Consumers in the advisory area should disinfect their water prior to consumption until otherwise notified,” Dezendorf advised.

Once the advisory is lifted, residents and businesses are instructed to take additional steps: run cold-water faucets and drinking fountains for one minute; flush automatic icemakers by discarding three batches of ice; run water softeners through a regeneration cycle; and operate direct-connection water coolers for five minutes.

The advisory will remain in effect until further notice from city officials.

For questions or concerns about this advisory, residents can contact Barrett Dezendorf at barrett.dezendorf@cityofalex.com or call 318-441-6215.
