A boil water advisory has been issued for Koppers Street in Alexandria, Louisiana following a loss of pressure to a six-inch water line. Barrett Dezendorf, Superintendent of Water Operations, announced the advisory after water pressure was lost during repair work, which may have compromised the water supply in the affected area.

“As a precaution, the Alexandria Water Department is issuing a boil advisory effective immediately. This boil advisory is to remain in effect until otherwise noted. The boil water advisory is issued for customers located in the area described below: All the properties along Koppers Street that are highlighted in the attached map. (Please see attached detail map),” said Dezendorf.

Residents and businesses on Koppers Street are advised to disinfect their water before consuming it or using it for activities such as making ice, brushing teeth, preparing food, or rinsing foods. The recommended method is to bring water to a rolling boil for one full minute in a clean container. To improve taste after boiling, residents can shake the water by pouring it between containers or add a small pinch of salt per quart.

The advisory will remain in place until further notice from city officials. Once lifted, those affected should take additional steps including running cold-water faucets and drinking fountains for one minute, flushing automatic icemakers by discarding three batches of ice, running water softeners through regeneration cycles, and running direct-connection water coolers for five minutes.

For more information or questions about the advisory, contact Barrett Dezendorf at barrett.dezendorf@cityofalex.com or call 318-441-6215.
