U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy have introduced a resolution in the Senate to honor Centenary College of Louisiana on its 200th anniversary. The resolution recognizes the college’s contributions to higher education both within Louisiana and nationally.

“For 200 years, Centenary College of Louisiana shapes leaders and serves the Shreveport community and our entire state,” said Dr. Cassidy. “Its bicentennial is a celebration of the past and the bright future ahead.”

Senator Kennedy added, “For 200 years, Centenary College has helped shape Louisiana’s leaders, strengthened the Shreveport-Bossier community, and upheld the best traditions of higher education. This bicentennial is a testament to the college’s resilience, academic excellence, and lasting impact on our state. I’m proud to see the Senate pass my resolution honoring this great institution.”

Dr. Christopher Holoman, President of Centenary College, commented on the recognition: “Centenary is proud to be Louisiana’s oldest college. For two hundred years, the college has been preparing students to serve our state, region, and nation as physicians, scientists, clergy, business people, artists, and so much more. We are grateful for the support of our community and are excited to being our third century of service.”

Senator Cassidy represents Louisiana in the U.S. Senate and serves as chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. He began his career as a physician after earning undergraduate and medical degrees from Louisiana State University and later worked as an educator at LSU Medical School before entering public service in roles including co-founding a community clinic. He was elected to Congress in 2008 for Louisiana’s 6th District before winning election to the U.S. Senate in 2014 and taking office in 2015. Cassidy maintains offices across several cities in Louisiana to represent constituents at the federal level.

Centenary College was founded two centuries ago and remains one of Louisiana’s historic institutions dedicated to educating students for various professional fields.
