Louisiana is set to receive over $19.5 million in federal funding aimed at improving roadway safety, according to an announcement from U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA). The funds come from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program.
The allocation will be used by communities across Louisiana to address traffic safety issues, reduce serious injuries and fatalities, and enhance road conditions for families, pedestrians, and first responders.
“Too many Louisiana families have had their lives changed forever by preventable traffic accidents,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This funding I secured is going directly to Louisiana communities to make our streets safer.”
Senator Cassidy represents Louisiana in the United States Senate and leads the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, guiding federal policies in these areas as detailed on his official website. He holds undergraduate and medical degrees from Louisiana State University and has a background as a physician and educator before entering public service.
Cassidy was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2014 after serving in the U.S. House for Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District beginning in 2008 and earlier in the Louisiana State Senate. His office maintains locations across several cities in Louisiana such as Baton Rouge, Alexandria, and Lafayette.
