U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy announced on Apr. 9 that he has secured $3.65 million in federal funding for the Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission’s (JEDCO) Food and Beverage Incubator.
The new funds, which come from the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act of 2026, bring the total amount raised for the incubator to $8.7 million. Supporters say this investment will help local businesses grow and create jobs while supporting Louisiana’s culinary reputation.
“People travel from around the world just for Louisiana’s food scene,” said Dr. Cassidy. “By supporting this project, we’re supporting local businesses, creating jobs, and continuing a culinary legacy.” Other contributors to the project include the U.S. Economic Development Administration, Louisiana Economic Development, the Jefferson Parish Council, and JEDCO itself.
Once completed, it will be the only major wholesale food production incubator in Greater New Orleans. The facility is planned to feature three commercial kitchens with a demonstration or teaching kitchen as well as equipment for bottling, baking, blending and general production; loading docks; storage areas; an outdoor plaza; and a culinary garden.
Mr. Jerry Bologna, President and CEO of JEDCO said: “This project signals JEDCO’s commitment to the food and beverage industry… With this additional federal investment, we are accelerating our ability to deliver a world-class resource that empowers entrepreneurs to launch, grow, and scale food and beverage businesses right here in Jefferson Parish.” Mr. Michael Hecht of GNO Inc., added: “This project represents the kind of strategic, collaborative, delicious investment that drives regional economic growth… By providing infrastructure and support needed to scale food and beverage businesses we’re helping strengthen one of Southeast Louisiana’s most culturally significant industries.”
Senator Cassidy has also co-founded the Greater Baton Rouge Community Clinic to deliver free health care services according to his official website. He earned both undergraduate and medical degrees from Louisiana State University according to his official website.
