U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) has written an opinion piece for Breitbart, highlighting his Americas Act as a legislative step following the recent extraction of Nicolás Maduro from Venezuela. Cassidy credited President Trump and U.S. forces for their roles in “Operation Absolute Resolve,” which led to Maduro being brought to the United States to stand trial.
“President Trump and Republicans promised to address U.S. national security concerns. We are continuing to deliver on that promise. Maduro’s extraction is a step in the right direction for our country and for our allies,” wrote Dr. Cassidy.
He further emphasized the need for continued action: “The Americas Act is the clear and responsible next step in keeping the United States secure and the high-paying jobs coming. It is a plan for generations to come—one that strengthens America while lifting up our neighbors across the hemisphere. President Trump and Republicans must work together and pass the Americas Act to build the strongest neighborhood in the world,” concluded Dr. Cassidy.
In his op-ed, Cassidy described Maduro as an “indicted narco-terrorist who poisoned over 100,000 Americans,” citing his involvement with transnational criminal organizations and alliances with countries such as China, Iran, and Russia.
Cassidy argued that foreign influence, particularly from China, has grown in Venezuela under Maduro’s leadership, posing risks to both American interests and regional stability. He warned that without a unified strategy, powers like China could shape outcomes in the Western Hemisphere at America’s expense.
According to Cassidy, his Americas Act proposes creating an Americas Investment Corporation aimed at fostering investment partnerships between the U.S., its private sector, and regional allies. The goal would be to support projects such as lithium mining in Bolivia or port modernization in Panama and Chile while reducing risks for American companies investing abroad.
Cassidy said this approach would help promote economic growth throughout the region, reduce opportunities for authoritarian leaders like Maduro to gain power, and reinforce U.S. national security objectives.
