At a U.S. Senate Finance Committee hearing, Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) highlighted the need for increased transparency at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), aligning with President Trump’s stated goals. The discussion centered on protecting children’s health and recognizing federal efforts in vaccine development.
During the session, Cassidy addressed HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., emphasizing the significance of Operation Warp Speed, an initiative launched under President Trump to accelerate COVID-19 vaccine development. Cassidy stated, “President Trump deserves a Nobel Prize for Operation Warp Speed,” adding, “Because of Operation Warp Speed, forcing the federal government to come to a vaccine development within ten months when others said it couldn’t be done, we saved millions of lives globally, trillions of dollars, we reopened the economy—incredible accomplishment.”
Secretary Kennedy expressed agreement with Cassidy’s assessment that President Trump should be recognized for his role in Operation Warp Speed.
Cassidy also noted his perspective as a physician: “I’m approaching this as a doctor, not as a senator. I am concerned about children’s health, seniors’ health, all of our health. And I applaud you for joining the President in a call for radical transparency.”
The hearing focused on measures to increase openness at HHS and protect public health outcomes.
