U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy introduced the Improving IRS Customer Service Act on Apr. 15, aiming to make the Internal Revenue Service easier for taxpayers to navigate and access information. The proposed legislation would expand online resources about refunds and provide additional support for those needing payment plans.
The bill is intended to help taxpayers have a simpler and less stressful experience when interacting with the IRS. Cassidy said, “Taxpayers deserve a simple, stress-free experience when dealing with the IRS. This bill makes the process quicker and easier for taxpayers to get the information they need.”
During a Senate Finance Committee hearing, Cassidy secured a commitment from Frank Bisignano, Chief Executive Officer of the IRS under President Donald Trump, that he would work with Congress if these reforms are enacted into law. “I’m happy to meet with the team … and do all I can to make it as good as you want it to be,” Bisignano said.
Cassidy was joined by Senator Mark Warner in introducing this legislation. In addition to his legislative work, Cassidy co-founded the Greater Baton Rouge Community Clinic to deliver free health and dental care according to the official website. He also advances initiatives focused on reducing health care costs, supporting coastal restoration, and reforming mental health systems according to his official website.
Cassidy serves as chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee while also being a member of several other committees including Finance; Energy and Natural Resources; and Veterans Affairs according to his official website. He earned both undergraduate and medical degrees from Louisiana State University according to his official website, raised three children with his wife—a retired breast cancer surgeon—and enjoys time with their grandchild according to his official website.
The introduction of this bill reflects ongoing efforts by lawmakers like Cassidy who seek practical improvements in federal services that directly affect everyday Americans.
