U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) has issued a statement marking the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina’s landfall in Louisiana. Reflecting on the impact of the storm and ongoing recovery efforts, Cassidy stated, “I’ve been working for resiliency so that if we have another storm, this doesn’t happen again. And we’ve all been working to make our state a stronger place. We remember the tragedy. Let’s celebrate the rebirth.”
As part of commemorative events, Cassidy is scheduled to join the St. Bernard Parish School Board Breakfast to acknowledge how quickly St. Bernard and other schools across Louisiana reopened following Hurricane Katrina.
Cassidy will also speak at the opening of the United Way Resiliency Center in New Orleans, which aims to support communities in preparing for and recovering from future flooding.
Additionally, Cassidy delivered remarks on the U.S. Senate floor, highlighting progress made since Hurricane Katrina to rebuild and strengthen Louisiana’s infrastructure.
