U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) released a video statement on the two-year anniversary of the October 7 terrorist attacks in Israel, which resulted in the deaths of over a thousand Israelis and Americans. Alongside U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), Cassidy introduced a Senate resolution condemning Iran-backed Hamas for its actions, calling for the return of all remaining hostages, and expressing support for Israel.
“When you see the images and hear the stories of what families endured on October 7th, your heart breaks,” said Dr. Cassidy. “We stand with Israel and against the antisemitism that fuels Hamas. Let’s end the war with President Trump’s peace deal.”
Senator Cassidy has previously expressed support for former President Donald Trump’s efforts to develop a peace agreement between Israel and Gaza.
As Chair of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, Cassidy is leading initiatives to address antisemitism on college campuses following the attacks. During a HELP Committee hearing on antisemitic disruptions at universities, he launched an investigation into American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), citing concerns about their role in organizing demonstrations that have disrupted campuses nationwide. In addition, Cassidy introduced legislation called the Protecting Students on Campus Act, aimed at holding universities accountable for addressing discrimination and ensuring campus safety.
