The U.S. Senate has passed the Veterans Health Administration Policy Advisory Commission (VetPAC) Act, legislation introduced by Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA). The bill aims to establish a new commission, VetPAC, that will conduct expert-driven reviews of the Veterans Health Administration’s operations. The proposed commission will consist of medical experts and veterans who are responsible for evaluating the VHA’s performance, identifying areas for improvement, and providing regular reports to Congress.

“Our veterans put their lives on the line in service to our nation,” said Dr. Cassidy. “We owe them a health care system worthy of that sacrifice. This legislation moves us closer to that standard.”

Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) joined Senator Cassidy in introducing the measure. With Senate approval, the bill now proceeds to the House of Representatives for further consideration.

Senator Cassidy represents Louisiana in the United States Senate and serves as chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, where he influences federal policy related to health care and other key areas according to his official website. Before entering politics, Cassidy worked as a physician and educator at Louisiana State University Medical School and co-founded a community clinic in Baton Rouge. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2014 after serving in both the U.S. House of Representatives for Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District and the Louisiana State Senate.

Cassidy holds undergraduate and medical degrees from Louisiana State University (source).
