U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) has called on state governors to participate in a new federal school choice scholarship tax credit program, which was recently authorized under the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA). The ECCA was signed into law by President Trump in July as part of the Working Families Tax Cut bill.
In letters sent to state leaders, Cassidy and several Republican colleagues encouraged states to opt-in so that K-12 students could benefit from the initiative. “This innovative credit will unlock billions of private dollars to fund scholarships for K-12 students across the country, including in your state,” said the members.
They further emphasized the potential impact of the program: “Each of these scholarships could improve a child’s trajectory, open new opportunities, and strengthen your state’s educational outcomes and future workforce. We urge you to act quickly to ensure students can benefit from this tax credit from day one and dollars donated to your state remain in the state,” continued the members.
Joining Cassidy in sending these letters were U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) and U.S. Representatives Adrian Smith (R-NE-03), Burgess Owens (R-UT-04), and Tim Walberg (R-MI-07).
