U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) recently visited Israel as part of a bipartisan Senate delegation to express unwavering support for the Jewish State of Israel. During his trip, Cassidy met with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, the war cabinet, and the families of Israeli-American hostages held by Hamas.

In response to the brutal terrorist attacks by Hamas, Cassidy introduced bipartisan resolutions in support of Israel and condemning Hamas’s actions. He urged President Joe Biden to prioritize the release of American hostages held by Hamas and called for the freezing of a $6 billion transfer to Iran. Cassidy also shared the powerful stories he heard from the loved ones of hostages in Israel and stressed that there is no moral equivalency between Israel and Hamas.

During his visit to Tel Aviv, Cassidy experienced firsthand the reality of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He witnessed Israel’s efforts to protect civilians, including the distribution of leaflets to inform Palestinians to evacuate to safer areas. Cassidy also noted the role of Iran in enabling Hamas’s attacks, stating that while it is unclear if Iran played an active role, they provided the capabilities for Hamas to carry out their actions.

Upon his return to the U.S., Cassidy emphasized the importance of standing with Israel. He stated, “Israelis need to know the U.S. stands with them.” Cassidy also highlighted the impact of his meeting with the families of hostages, condemning Hamas for their intent to kill all Jews and the brutal attacks on their own people.

Cassidy’s visit to Israel shed light on the extreme violence and indifference of Hamas towards humanitarian concerns. He described how Hamas terrorists use civilian clothing and vehicles to attack Israeli forces, hiding their operations beneath homes, hospitals, and schools.

Senator Cassidy’s trip to Israel provided a firsthand account of the ongoing conflict and the challenges faced by the Israeli people. His support for Israel and his efforts to hold Hamas and Iran accountable for their actions demonstrate America’s commitment to the security and well-being of its ally in the region.
