Senator John Kennedy, a Republican representing Louisiana, posted several messages on his social media account in October 2025 addressing the ongoing government shutdown and sharing personal sentiments.
On October 18, 2025, Kennedy commented on the legislative requirements for ending the government shutdown. He wrote, “If some people would put down their juice boxes and crayons and do a little reading, they would realize the Senate needs 60 votes to reopen the government. This is a Democrat shutdown, and they know it.”
Later that same day, he posted another message stating simply: “I don’t hate anybody.”
The following day, on October 19, Kennedy shared a personal observation: “Dogs are the best people.”
Senate rules require at least 60 votes to advance most legislation, including measures to fund or reopen the federal government. The current political stalemate has led to a partial government shutdown as both parties debate funding provisions.
Kennedy has served as Louisiana’s junior U.S. Senator since 2017 and is known for his direct communication style and frequent commentary on congressional procedures.
