Senator John Kennedy Criticizes D.C. Crime Policies and Comments on European Progress
Senator John Kennedy, representing Louisiana in the U.S. Senate, has used his social media platform to voice concerns about crime legislation in Washington, D.C., and to comment on recent developments in Europe.
On August 21, 2025, Kennedy criticized local lawmakers in the nation’s capital, stating: “Loon-wing progressives in the D.C. local government passed soft-on-crime laws that allow criminals under 25 years old to get a slap on the wrist. Now, they’re foaming at the mouth because President Trump is cleaning up the mess that they made worse.”
The following day, Kennedy addressed European affairs by posting: “Europe is doing better—but it’s not doing enough.” This statement did not elaborate further but suggested ongoing concerns regarding European policies or actions.
Later on August 22, Kennedy again referenced crime policy in Washington, D.C., stating: “President Trump is making our nation’s capital safer by taking alleged gang members and other criminals off the street. That’s good news for the millions of people from every state—including Louisiana—who visit each year.”
Kennedy’s remarks come amid national debates over public safety measures and criminal justice reform. In recent years, some jurisdictions have adopted more lenient sentencing guidelines for young offenders under age 25 as part of broader efforts to address youth incarceration rates and rehabilitation opportunities. These policies have been met with both support and criticism across party lines.
In addition to domestic issues, Kennedy’s brief commentary on Europe reflects a wider pattern among U.S. lawmakers of monitoring international developments and urging continued progress abroad.
