John Kennedy, U.S. Senator from Louisiana, posted a series of statements on his social media account on October 9, 2025, addressing federal spending, the ongoing government shutdown, and recent developments in Middle East diplomacy.

In one post from the afternoon of October 9, Kennedy commented on proposed government spending, writing, “Democrats will get their $1.5 trillion in extra spending when donkeys fly.” This statement was made amid ongoing budget negotiations in Congress.

Later that evening, Kennedy addressed the government shutdown and leadership within the Democratic Party. He stated, “Senator Schumer’s getting a lot of the blame for this shutdown—and Lord knows he deserves it. But he isn’t really in control. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez is calling the shots.” The remarks were posted as congressional leaders continued to negotiate over federal funding.

In a subsequent post, Kennedy commented on a diplomatic agreement in the Middle East, writing, “I am so proud of President Trump and my country for making a peace deal between Israel and Hamas—and for ignoring the whiny, weak wokers who sided with Hamas.”

The senator’s statements come at a time when Congress is engaged in contentious budget negotiations and facing a government shutdown. Disagreements over federal spending have led to partisan disputes, with Democratic leaders such as Senator Chuck Schumer and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez playing prominent roles in negotiations. The mention of a peace deal between Israel and Hamas follows recent diplomatic efforts by the United States to broker agreements in the region.
