John Kennedy, U.S. Senator from Louisiana, posted a series of statements on August 29, 2025, addressing topics ranging from the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina to government spending and federal intervention in state matters.
In a message commemorating the twentieth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Kennedy wrote: “Hurricane Katrina broke our hearts, but not our spirit. We saw neighbors become heroes and communities across our great state prove stronger than any storm.
20 years later, we remember the lives lost, and honor the resilience of our people. Louisiana still stands strong.” (August 29, 2025)
Later that day, Kennedy criticized federal fiscal policies with another statement: “Washington doesn’t feel the pain when they waste taxpayer money.
But the American people do.” (August 29, 2025)
Addressing national political tensions between federal and state governments, Kennedy commented on former President Donald Trump’s reported threats regarding California’s governance: “If a threat from President Trump to send federal law enforcement officials to California is what it takes to get Gov. Newsom to stop being a princess, I’ll take it.” (August 29, 2025)
Hurricane Katrina made landfall in Louisiana on August 29, 2005. The hurricane resulted in widespread devastation throughout New Orleans and surrounding regions. The event led to over one thousand deaths and displaced hundreds of thousands of residents for months or years afterward.
Senator John Kennedy has represented Louisiana in the U.S. Senate since January 2017.
