U.S. Senator John Kennedy, who represents Louisiana and chairs the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, marked the anniversary of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Ice Hockey Team’s victory and commented on recent achievements by the USA men’s hockey team in a series of posts on February 22 and 23, 2026.

On February 22, Kennedy posted about the historic sports moment: “On February 22, 1980, the young men of the U.S. Olympic Ice Hockey Team delivered the greatest upset in sports history and brought our nation together. 46 years later, the Soviet Union is gone, and they’re still star-spangled awesome.” (posted on February 22, 2026).

Later that day, he congratulated the current national team: “Congratulations to the USA men’s hockey team on bringing home their first gold medal since 1980! This team is tough as a pine knot.” (posted on February 22, 2026).

On February 23, Kennedy addressed trade policy: “If I was king for a day, I would offer zero U.S. tariffs on goods from other countries if they would levy zero tariffs on our goods sold to them. Trade is more complicated than that, and we live in the real world, but that should be the ideal.” (posted on February 23, 2026).

Senator Kennedy engages with constituents through newsletters, town halls and public events across Louisiana (official website). He operates district offices in several cities including Alexandria and New Orleans. His legislative work includes advancing policies supporting veterans, farmers and small businesses as well as serving on committees related to appropriations and energy policy.
