Kennedy announces $32.2 million in aid for Cameron Parish, Louisiana DPS

Senator John Kennedy announced on Apr. 24 that Louisiana will receive more than $32 million in federal funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for protective measures and management costs.

The funding is intended to help strengthen critical infrastructure and ensure reliable power during severe weather events. The announcement highlights efforts to support both local communities and public safety agencies as they prepare for harsh conditions.

According to Kennedy, “When severe weather hits Louisiana, it’s hard to overstate how important reliable power is for our people. This $32.2 million will help provide Cameron Parish and our public safety officials with electricity they can count on during harsh conditions.” The funds include nearly $29.8 million allocated to Cameron Parish for Phase II construction of an electrical substation and transmission lines aimed at storm protection, as well as over $1.2 million for related management costs. Additionally, the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections will receive just over $1 million for the purchase and installation of two permanent generators at its Baton Rouge headquarters, along with more than $51,000 in management costs associated with this project.
