U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., a Louisiana Republican and chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, addressed a range of issues in several posts on February 6, 2026.
In one post from that day, Cassidy criticized the defense of a medical professional accused of sending abortion pills to a man who allegedly intended to coerce his girlfriend into terminating her pregnancy. Later the same day, Cassidy highlighted federal funding secured for rural healthcare access in Louisiana. He stated: “You shouldn’t have to drive to a big city to get a life-saving scan. That is why I secured over $4 MILLION in federal funding for Natchitoches Regional Medical Center to purchase a new PET scanner and CT machine!” (February 6, 2026)
Cassidy also addressed New York City Mayor Eric Adams directly regarding executive orders related to antisemitism and Israel boycotts. In his message he said: “.@NYCMayor, I’m asking that you answer the following questions by February 19th: (1) How, if at all, does revoking the executive order adopting the IHRA working definition of antisemitism and the executive order barring boycotts of Israel protect Jewish students? (2) Will your” (February 6, 2026)
Senator Cassidy has represented Louisiana in the U.S. Senate since winning election in 2014 after previously serving in both the U.S. House for Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District beginning in 2008 and earlier in the Louisiana State Senate. As chairman of an influential Senate committee overseeing health policy, Cassidy’s background includes undergraduate and medical degrees from Louisiana State University.[source]
