U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., posted a series of messages on his official Twitter account between April 30 and May 1, 2026, addressing recent events in Louisiana and outlining his policy priorities.

On April 30, Cassidy commented on the aftermath of a shooting at the Mall of Louisiana: “Yesterday, I went to the Senate floor to honor the life of Martha Odom and the victims of the shooting at the Mall of Louisiana. The entire state of Louisiana grieves for her family, her friends, and all who loved and knew her.” (April 30, 2026).

Later that day, he shared his participation in an event with a pro-life organization: “Honored to join @sbaprolife last night to discuss our work defending the unborn. In Louisiana, we believe in the right to life. I will ALWAYS defend that right for our most vulnerable!” (April 30, 2026).

On May 1, Cassidy addressed economic concerns regarding fuel prices: “Louisianans are paying way too much for gas. While President Trump’s efforts to open the Strait of Hormuz will provide immediate relief, we also need a permanent fix. My energy plan does that, creating more jobs, lowering prices at the pump, and lowering energy bills for” (May 1, 2026).

Senator Cassidy is known for co-founding the Greater Baton Rouge Community Clinic to deliver free health and dental care services (official website). He has focused legislative efforts on reducing health care costs and supporting coastal restoration as well as mental health system reforms. Cassidy serves on several Senate committees including Finance; Energy and Natural Resources; and Veterans Affairs (official website). He earned both undergraduate and medical degrees from Louisiana State University.
