U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., posted a series of statements on September 9, 2025, addressing concerns about the accuracy of federal jobs data and advocating for education reform in collaboration with the Biden administration.
In his first post at 14:11 UTC, Cassidy stated, “.@POTUS & @EDSecMcMahon are committed to reforming our broken education system to prioritize student achievement and put families first. As Chairman of @GOPHELP, I am committed to working with them towards this common goal.”
Later that day at 15:16 UTC, Cassidy raised issues regarding the reliability of employment statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). He wrote, “Jobs reports have always required revisions, but the initial numbers continue to get less and less accurate. When BLS fails to deliver accurate jobs data, it has serious implications for the economy and families’ pocketbooks. Policymakers are unable to make informed decisions.”
In a subsequent post at 15:16 UTC on September 9, he continued his criticism of current practices at BLS by stating, “The status quo is not working. BLS cannot continue to use the same process and expect a different outcome. @POTUS made clear he wants to fix BLS so it can deliver accurate, reliable economic data that the American people can trust. This highlights the need for @GOPHELP to work”.
Senator Cassidy serves as Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee. The Bureau of Labor Statistics is responsible for producing key economic indicators such as employment figures used by policymakers and economists nationwide.
The accuracy of BLS jobs reports has been an ongoing subject of debate among lawmakers and analysts due to their impact on policy decisions affecting American households and businesses.
