U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., posted a series of statements on September 30, 2025, addressing issues related to the potential government shutdown and the closure of Planned Parenthood facilities in Louisiana.
In his first post, Cassidy highlighted the importance of federal flood insurance for his state, writing on September 30: “The National Flood Insurance Program provides stability for half a million Louisianans. A Democrat-led government shutdown would pull that rug out from under them. We need to keep the government OPEN and protect our families.” The National Flood Insurance Program is a critical source of coverage for homeowners in Louisiana, where flood risk is significant due to geography and weather patterns.
Later that day, Cassidy commented on the broader impacts of a possible shutdown. On September 30 he stated: “How does a government shutdown help middle class families? It doesn’t. A Schumer Shutdown means our troops work without pay and our seniors face delays getting help with Social Security. It hurts our entire economy. This is a gut punch from @SenateDems to working families who” In recent years, lapses in federal funding have led to disruptions in services including military pay and social security processing.
Cassidy also addressed abortion policy in Louisiana on September 30: “Planned Parenthood closes its doors today in Louisiana. A victory for the unborn! I’ll continue working with @POTUS to promote policies that protect the unborn and support mothers in our state and beyond.” Planned Parenthood’s closure follows changes in state law affecting reproductive health providers.
Senator Cassidy represents Louisiana in the U.S. Senate and has previously advocated for disaster relief measures as well as legislation restricting abortion access.
