U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., a Louisiana representative in the U.S. Senate and chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, recently shared updates on his legislative efforts and local engagements through social media.
On March 12, 2026, Cassidy addressed ongoing national challenges and legislative gridlock in a post stating, “We are facing severe storms, dealing with Iranian cyber attacks, and TSA agents have been working without pay. I just voted AGAIN to fund @DHSgov, and Democrats objected to appease their left wing radical base. We must fund DHS NOW!”
The following day, Cassidy highlighted his support for Louisiana’s culinary industry. On March 13, 2026 he posted, “Nobody does food better than Louisiana. It was great meeting with some of our state’s restaurant owners to talk about how we can keep our local food scene the best in the world.”
Later that day, Cassidy reflected on economic initiatives related to historic preservation. He wrote on March 13, 2026: “I fought to save the Federal Historic Tax Credit in 2017 because I knew exactly what it meant for Louisiana. Proud to see the results paying off. We’re creating jobs, strengthening our economy, and preserving our state’s heritage.”
Cassidy’s background includes obtaining undergraduate and medical degrees from Louisiana State University and holding prior positions in both the U.S. House of Representatives for Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District beginning in 2008 and the Louisiana State Senate. He won election to the U.S. Senate in 2014 and his office comprises senior staff such as a first assistant (source). As chairman of a key Senate committee, Cassidy influences federal policy on health care, labor issues, education policy and retirement programs.
