U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., a Louisiana representative in the U.S. Senate and chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, posted several updates on March 12, 2026, addressing local achievements and national incidents.
In a post recognizing youth achievement, Cassidy wrote on March 12: “It was great meeting Valerie Huete, the Division 4 Young Marine of the Year, from River Ridge today. This month, she is competing against just five other division winners from across the country for the National title. Good luck, Valerie! Keep making Louisiana proud!”
Later that day, Cassidy commented on an incident involving violence at a synagogue: “This is the latest attack against a synagogue. Thank God for the security guard who shot the shooter. We should unite in opposing antisemitism and antisemitic violence.” The senator called for unity in opposition to antisemitism.
On March 12 as well, Cassidy addressed news regarding Old Dominion University: “Horrifying news at Old Dominion University. Students and faculty should feel safe on their campus. My heart is with the families of the victims today.”
Senator Cassidy has served as Louisiana’s representative in the U.S. Senate since his election in 2014 and previously held seats in both the U.S. House for Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District and the Louisiana State Senate (official website). He obtained his undergraduate and medical degrees from Louisiana State University and leads federal policy discussions through his chairmanship of a key Senate committee (official website).
