U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., a representative of Louisiana in the U.S. Senate, addressed several issues in a series of posts on February 23 and 24, 2026.
On February 23, Cassidy expressed gratitude to former President Trump for acknowledging Angel Families. He stated: “Thank you, President Trump, for honoring Angel Families today. No family should ever have to endure this nightmare. That’s why I cosponsored the Laken Riley Act and led the HALT Fentanyl Act—both now law—to crack down on criminals and keep Americans safe.”
Later that day, Cassidy discussed his engagement with stakeholders from Louisiana’s timber industry. He wrote: “Always great to catch up with our Louisiana timber folks, especially the bright students visiting from Louisiana Tech! We had a good conversation about recovering from recent storms and making sure the timber industry stays strong.”
On February 24, Cassidy issued a warning to Louisianans in Mexico regarding cartel violence. He advised: “If you are a Louisianan currently in Mexico, please take immediate precautions amidst the ongoing cartel violence. Shelter in place, notify family of your well-being, and enroll in the STEP program (https://t.co/vKB2QiwDIv) for direct security updates.”
Cassidy has served as Louisiana’s senator since winning election to the U.S. Senate in 2014 after holding seats in both the U.S. House and Louisiana State Senate. His background includes undergraduate and medical degrees from Louisiana State University. He also chairs the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. His office is supported by senior staff including a first assistant.
