U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., used his Twitter account on May 5 and 6, 2026, to address issues ranging from election integrity and abortion policy to addiction recovery efforts in Louisiana.

On May 5, Cassidy called for legislative action regarding voting rights, stating, “We must ensure only American citizens vote in our elections! Pass the SAVE America Act NOW!”

Later that day, he commented on a recent court decision concerning chemical abortion drugs: “Chemical abortion drugs end the lives of unborn children and harm women. The Fifth Circuit’s decision is correct and should be affirmed by the Supreme Court. In the meantime, FDA must stop dragging its feet and reinstate commonsense safeguards to protect women from abuse and”

On May 6, Cassidy highlighted his engagement with local recovery initiatives: “Spoke to Cody with The Grove Recovery Center. They do great work to help Louisianans suffering from addiction and mental illnesses.”

Cassidy serves on several Senate committees including Finance, Energy and Natural Resources, and Veterans Affairs, according to his official website. He has also co-founded the Greater Baton Rouge Community Clinic to provide free health and dental care for uninsured individuals in his community. Additionally, Cassidy has advanced initiatives focused on reducing health care costs, supporting coastal restoration efforts, and reforming mental health systems.
