U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy announced on April 29 his new energy plan aimed at reducing gas prices for Louisiana families. The plan proposes increasing American energy production, cutting regulatory barriers, and lowering costs at the pump and on household energy bills.
Cassidy said the proposal is designed to provide immediate relief for consumers while supporting broader efforts to increase domestic oil and gas output. “To lower prices immediately, we must support President Trump’s efforts to open the Strait of Hormuz. In the meantime, let’s work on what else can be done,” Cassidy said. “For example, increasing oil and gas production off the coast of Louisiana and across the U.S., boosting imports to Louisiana’s refineries, and passing permitting reform to get fuel to market faster. My plan does that, creating more jobs and lowering prices at the pump for Louisianians.”
The senator’s agenda focuses on four areas of reform intended to make fuel more accessible while creating jobs in Louisiana’s energy sector. According to Cassidy’s official website, he serves on several key Senate committees including Finance, Energy and Natural Resources, and Veterans Affairs according to his official website.
Cassidy has previously played a role in expanding offshore lease sales through legislation such as the Working Families Tax Cuts Act. Earlier this month he secured $29 million for upgrades in Cameron Parish’s electrical infrastructure.
In addition to his work in energy policy, Cassidy has a background in health care advocacy; he co-founded the Greater Baton Rouge Community Clinic which provides free health and dental care according to his official website. He also advances initiatives related to reducing health care costs, coastal restoration efforts, and mental health system reforms according to his official website.
Cassidy earned both undergraduate and medical degrees from Louisiana State University according to his official website. He raised three children with his wife—who is a retired breast cancer surgeon—and enjoys spending time with their grandchild according to his official website.
