U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., has taken to social media to address the ongoing government shutdown and issues related to medical data privacy. On October 1, 2025, Cassidy posted a series of tweets criticizing Democratic leadership and highlighting concerns over taxpayer costs and personal data use.
In his first post on October 1, Cassidy stated: “The Schumer Shutdown is a result of Democrats choosing the demands of radical left activists over funding our government and paying our troops. I voted to keep the government open and will continue working to reopen it.
Until then, my office is still working for Louisiana. If”
Later that day, he followed up with another message quantifying the financial impact of the shutdown: “It’s Day 1 of the Schumer Shutdown. Here’s how much Democrats have cost taxpayers so far:Â $400 million” (October 1, 2025).
Cassidy also addressed concerns about data privacy in healthcare, writing: “Multibillion-dollar companies are making money off of your medical data. You should get some of those benefits. Let’s use crypto to do it.” (October 1, 2025).
Senator Cassidy represents Louisiana in the U.S. Senate and serves as a physician. Government shutdowns have historically resulted from disagreements between Congress and the President or among congressional leaders over budgetary allocations or policy provisions tied to funding bills. The term “Schumer Shutdown” refers to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s role according to Republican critics during previous federal funding impasses.
Healthcare data privacy remains an ongoing issue in U.S. policy discussions, as large technology firms increasingly profit from health information while lawmakers debate regulations that could give individuals more control or compensation for their personal data.
