U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., posted a series of statements on September 19, 2025, addressing both public health achievements and concerns regarding medical practices related to gender transition treatments.
In his first post at 22:12 UTC, Cassidy quoted the President of the United States and expressed agreement with the assessment of Operation Warp Speed: “Operation Warp Speed, one of the greatest things a President has ever done for this country, and you could say the world.” -@POTUS
Completely agree! And he should receive the Nobel Peace Prize for it. Operation Warp Speed was a federal initiative launched in 2020 to accelerate COVID-19 vaccine development and distribution.
Later that evening at 23:59 UTC, Cassidy voiced concern about certain medical professionals’ approach to gender transition care. In his second post he wrote: Deeply troubling: radical doctors are being trained to push extreme gender transition protocols in defiance of the Trump Admin’s clear directives against this agenda. The AMA is helping drive this by providing grants that support these programs, & they should be held accountable. The American Medical Association (AMA) is a national organization representing physicians and medical students in the United States.
At nearly the same time, Cassidy referenced his role as chair of @GOPHELP—an account associated with Republican leadership on health policy—and announced ongoing oversight efforts: As @GOPHELP Chair, I’m leading oversight of groups like WPATH whose standards shape medical practice, including advocating puberty blockers & other gender treatments for children. Investigations are underway and associations, including the AMA, should be held accountable. WPATH stands for World Professional Association for Transgender Health, an international non-profit professional association devoted to transgender health.
Senator Bill Cassidy represents Louisiana in the U.S. Senate and has been active on issues related to healthcare policy during his tenure.
