U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., posted a series of statements on October 7, 2025, addressing the ongoing government shutdown and reflecting on the anniversary of the October 7th attacks.
In his first post of the day, Cassidy criticized Democratic lawmakers for the ongoing budget impasse, writing: “It’s Day 7 of the Schumer Shutdown. Here’s how much Democrats have cost taxpayers so far:Â $2 billion” (October 7, 2025).
Later the same day, Cassidy commented on commemorations of the October 7th attacks in Israel, stating: “What an incredibly TWISTED interpretation of October 7th!
On this day in 2023, men, women, and babies were murdered, raped, kidnapped, and beheaded. Over 1,000 lives brutally destroyed.
The people putting these events together want you to forget that. We won’t forget that. https://t.co/Cjci0gaay2″ (October 7, 2025).
In a subsequent post, Cassidy informed constituents that despite the shutdown, his staff would be available in St. James Parish to assist with federal agency issues. He wrote: “The Schumer Shutdown is in full swing, but my team is still working for Louisiana.
If you have an issue with a federal agency, like the VA, my staff will be in St. James Parish tomorrow to help.
When: Wednesday, Oct. 8th at 1:00 PM
Where: St. James Parish Courthouse,” (October 7, 2025).
The term “Schumer Shutdown” used by Cassidy refers to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and reflects partisan disagreements over government funding. Such disputes over the federal budget and appropriations have led to previous government shutdowns in the United States when consensus could not be reached between parties.
The October 7th reference relates to the Hamas attacks in Israel in 2023, which resulted in significant loss of life and were widely condemned by U.S. officials and international leaders.
Senator Cassidy represents Louisiana and is known for his public communication during national events and crises.
