U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., used his social media platform on September 30, 2025, to comment on ongoing government funding negotiations and legislative priorities. In a series of posts, Cassidy discussed the prospect of a government shutdown, recent votes in Congress, and policy proposals related to drug pricing.
In his first post on September 30, Cassidy wrote: “We’re hours away from the Schumer Shutdown. Republicans will vote to keep the government open.”
Later that evening, Cassidy expressed support for former President Donald Trump’s healthcare proposal. He stated: “President Trump’s proposal is a win for patients across America. By lowering drug prices and driving investments back home, Americans will get the medicine they need without breaking the bank.”
In a third post later that night, Cassidy described the outcome of congressional votes regarding government funding: “It’s official: Republicans voted to fund the National Flood Insurance Program, pay our troops, and keep President Trump’s agenda moving by averting a government shutdown. Democrats voted against all of that. The Schumer Shutdown is a sucker punch to middle-class Americans.”
These comments came as lawmakers debated measures to avoid a lapse in federal funding at the end of September 2025—a recurring issue in U.S. politics where budget disagreements can lead to temporary closures of federal agencies and services if not resolved before deadlines.
Senator Bill Cassidy represents Louisiana in the U.S. Senate and is known for his work on healthcare policy and disaster recovery initiatives.
