U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., posted a series of tweets on July 16, 2025, highlighting bipartisan efforts to address the fentanyl crisis and acknowledging support from President Donald Trump and Senator Chuck Grassley.
In his first post, Cassidy wrote on July 16: “President Trump, Sen @ChuckGrassley, and I share a common goal: a fentanyl-free America!”
Later that day, he expressed gratitude for public support from the former president in another tweet dated July 16: “I appreciate the kind words of support from President Trump! Proud to be mentioned at such an important event.
Thank you for working together to get my HALT Fentanyl Act across the finish line. Together, we will make America FENTANYL-FREE!”
Following an event at the White House, Cassidy posted on July 16: “Just left the White House where President Trump thanked me at the signing of my HALT Fentanyl Act. No, thank YOU, Mr. President, for working together to protect our communities.”
The HALT Fentanyl Act is designed to strengthen federal control over illicit fentanyl-related substances by permanently scheduling them as Schedule I drugs under U.S. law. The measure aims to enhance law enforcement’s ability to prosecute individuals involved in trafficking synthetic opioids while also providing certain pathways for research into their medical use.
Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid linked to a significant rise in overdose deaths in recent years across the United States. Efforts like those led by Senator Cassidy are part of broader legislative actions responding to concerns over public health and safety related to opioid misuse.
