U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., who represents Louisiana in the U.S. Senate and serves as chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, addressed a range of issues on his social media account on February 4, 2026.
In a post highlighting national security initiatives earlier that day, Cassidy stated, “America’s national security depends on the air power that can deter threats. That’s why I secured $88.7 MILLION to modernize the B-52 and support our warfighters at @TeamBarksdale. This is good for America and good for Louisiana!” (posted February 4, 2026).
Later in the afternoon, Cassidy expressed condolences regarding a recent tragedy involving law enforcement: “Last week, we lost Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy Christopher Ohlmeyer, who was tragically killed while serving in a funeral procession. In his final moment, he was serving someone else. May we remember his sacrifice and strive to carry forward his legacy.” (posted February 4, 2026).
Addressing health care policy issues later that day, Cassidy wrote: “President Trump and I agree: these programs should be about lowering the cost for patients, not about increasing profit for shareholders.” (posted February 4, 2026).
Senator Cassidy obtained both his undergraduate and medical degrees from Louisiana State University according to his official website. He has held various elected offices including terms in the U.S. House representing Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District beginning in 2008 as well as earlier service in the Louisiana State Senate. He won election to the U.S. Senate in 2014.
As chairman of an influential Senate committee overseeing health care policy among other areas—and with senior staff such as a first assistant—Cassidy plays a significant role in shaping federal legislation related to education, labor and retirement.
