U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., representing Louisiana in the U.S. Senate, shared updates on federal funding and disaster relief efforts for his state through a series of posts on February 18 and 19, 2026.
The following day, he addressed recent severe weather events affecting North Louisiana: “Great news! President Trump just approved the request for a Major Disaster Declaration to assist those in North Louisiana impacted by the ice storm. This storm hit hard, but this declaration means the federal government can help cover more of the recovery costs so we can rebuild https://t.co/VCATJ578iG” (February 19).
Later that same day, Cassidy commented further on disaster response: “We cannot bring back the lives of those who were lost to Winter Storm Fern, but we can help recover. I led the Louisiana delegation in supporting this Disaster Declaration. Glad to see the President approve it. https://t.co/POpW87v2Yh” (February 19).
Senator Cassidy has served as Louisiana’s representative in the U.S. Senate since winning election in 2014 and previously held seats both in the U.S. House for Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District and in the Louisiana State Senate. He is also chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. Cassidy obtained his undergraduate and medical degrees from Louisiana State University.
