U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., a Louisiana representative in the federal legislative body and chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, highlighted several local and national initiatives in a series of social media posts between February 17 and 18, 2026.
On February 17, Cassidy shared an update about a local event: “Yesterday, DJ Daniel was sworn into the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office and celebrated by leading the Krewe of Shenandoah parade in St. George. What an inspiring story. Great to see this brave young man celebrated by our community.” The post recognized DJ Daniel’s participation in both law enforcement and a community parade.
Later that day, Cassidy discussed broadband infrastructure investments: “I secured $1.4 BILLION through my infrastructure bill to ensure Louisiana families and businesses have access to reliable high-speed internet. Proud that our state was the first in the nation to put these dollars to work to get Louisiana connected.” This funding is part of broader efforts to improve connectivity for residents and businesses across Louisiana.
On February 18, Cassidy addressed education policy with a focus on school choice: “Teachers’ unions are running to court to block school choice because they know they can’t convince the American people. My Educational Choice for Children Act is the FIRST FEDERAL SCHOOL CHOICE LAW IN HISTORY and helps parents access scholarships & leave failing schools.”
Cassidy has served as U.S. Senator since winning election in 2014 after previously representing Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District starting in 2008 and holding earlier roles in the Louisiana State Senate (official website). He obtained his undergraduate and medical degrees from Louisiana State University. As chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, he influences federal policy on health care, labor issues, education reform—including school choice—and retirement programs.
