U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., recently used his social media platform to address issues ranging from addiction recovery and environmental concerns to urban livability. In a series of posts on August 16, 2025, Cassidy highlighted local initiatives and national policy proposals.
In one post, Cassidy commended a Louisiana-based program for its approach to addiction and homelessness. On August 16, 2025, he wrote: “The Grove Recovery Center in Sorrento helps people struggling with addiction and homelessness regain stability with counseling, job training, housing, and more. As a doctor and senator, I believe this is a program every community should have!”
Later that day, Cassidy addressed environmental issues linked to international pollution. At 17:53 UTC on August 16, he posted: “.@TobyOverdorf is right. Seaweed washing up on Florida’s beaches is a symptom of a bigger problem: China pollutes with impunity and undercuts our workers.
My Foreign Pollution Fee Act holds them accountable and brings American manufacturing back home!” The Foreign Pollution Fee Act referenced by Cassidy aims to impose fees on foreign countries whose pollution impacts the United States or global environment. This legislation seeks to incentivize cleaner production practices abroad while supporting domestic industries.
Cassidy also commented on strategies for improving urban life. In another post at 21:13 UTC on August 16, he stated: “What is needed is a strategy to make our cities more livable. Shreveport has decreased its crime rate significantly over the last two years and deserves a lot of credit. In contrast, when Gavin Newsom was mayor of San Francisco, homelessness, hypodermic needles on the streets,”
Senator Bill Cassidy represents Louisiana in the U.S. Senate and has served as both a physician and legislator.
