U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., recently used his Twitter account to highlight Louisiana’s progress in education and discuss national security issues. On August 11, 2025, Cassidy referenced the visit of Secretary of Education McMahon to Louisiana as part of her “Returning Education to the States” tour.
In his first post on August 11, 2025, Cassidy wrote: “Louisiana is @EDSecMcMahon’s first stop on her ‘Returning Education to the States’ tour. Why? Because our state has made great strides recently to help our children read better. What we are doing is an example for the rest of the nation. But there’s more work to be done.”
He followed up later that day with another tweet expressing appreciation for Secretary McMahon’s visit: “During her visit today, we had a conversation about what has been achieved and what else we can do to set up our children for success. Thank you, Secretary McMahon, for visiting Louisiana. I look forward to working with her and @POTUS to further improve reading scores.”
On the same day, Cassidy also commented on federal efforts regarding public safety: “Securing the southern border was step one. Now President Trump is bringing that same focus to Washington, D.C. to restore law and order and keep families safe.”
Senator Cassidy represents Louisiana in the U.S. Senate and has previously focused legislative efforts on education reform and public safety measures at both state and national levels.
Louisiana’s recent educational initiatives have aimed at improving literacy rates among students by adopting evidence-based reading instruction methods—a trend gaining attention nationwide.
Secretary McMahon’s “Returning Education to the States” tour seeks to spotlight local successes in education policy while encouraging states’ autonomy over their school systems.
The senator’s remarks on border security come amid ongoing national debates about immigration enforcement policies under President Trump’s administration.
