U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., posted a series of messages on September 18, 2025, highlighting Louisiana’s role in national defense, local economic development efforts, and federal legislation addressing the opioid and mental health crisis.
In his first post of the day, Cassidy recognized the anniversary of the U.S. Air Force: “Happy 78th birthday to the @usairforce! Louisiana is incredibly proud to host Barksdale AFB, home of Air Force Global Strike Command, which is responsible for our nation’s nuclear deterrent. Thank you to all who serve on @TeamBarksdale and across the country.” (September 18, 2025). Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana serves as headquarters for the Air Force Global Strike Command, overseeing strategic deterrence and global strike operations.
Later that afternoon, Cassidy discussed economic initiatives in Southeast Louisiana: “Great meeting with the team at @GNOInc. They do an incredible job attracting high-quality jobs to Southeast Louisiana, and we are backing them up. I delivered $15 BILLION to improve the levee system in New Orleans, which keeps our local economy safe and thriving.” (September 18, 2025). The Greater New Orleans Inc. organization works to foster regional economic growth by attracting businesses and supporting infrastructure improvements. The referenced $15 billion investment is part of ongoing federal support aimed at strengthening flood protection systems around New Orleans—a critical measure following past disasters such as Hurricane Katrina.
In his final message that day, Cassidy addressed public health challenges: “The opioid and mental health crisis is tearing apart families. The SUPPORT Act equips communities with vital tools to combat this scourge and save lives. Looking forward to seeing it signed into law.” (September 18, 2025). The SUPPORT Act is federal legislation designed to address substance use disorders through prevention programs and expanded access to treatment services.
Senator Cassidy has been active in both state-level initiatives—such as supporting military installations like Barksdale AFB—and national legislative efforts targeting public health emergencies.
