U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., has recently used his social media platform to address several policy issues, including Social Security reform, domestic medical supply chains, and mental health care for veterans.
On August 14, 2025, Cassidy announced a legislative initiative aimed at Social Security. He stated, “I introduced a resolution to designate today as National Save Social Security Day. The program is going insolvent in 7-8 years, and doing nothing means benefit cuts for seniors. My plan creates a Sovereign Wealth Fund to protect Social Security now and for the future.”
The following day, on August 15, 2025, Cassidy addressed concerns about reliance on international sources for critical medical supplies. He wrote, “We can’t leave our nation’s health in the hands of foreign supply chains. Thank you @POTUS for keeping America safe by ensuring the USA has the medical products needed to respond to any and all future health threats.”
Later that same day, Cassidy highlighted efforts to improve mental health services for veterans in Louisiana. He posted: “In New Orleans, I held a @SVACGOP field hearing on mental health care for Louisiana veterans. They’ve earned the best care possible, including for PTSD, depression, and substance abuse. No veteran should be left to suffer in the shadows.”
Senator Cassidy’s focus on Social Security comes amid ongoing national discussions about its long-term solvency and proposals from lawmakers regarding potential reforms or funding mechanisms. The concern over foreign medical supply chains intensified during recent global health crises when shortages affected access to essential products across the United States.
His emphasis on veteran mental health reflects broader bipartisan efforts in Congress to expand resources addressing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and substance abuse among former service members.
