U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., recently shared a series of posts on social media reflecting on past disaster recovery efforts, student loan policies, and military service recognition.
On August 7, 2025, Cassidy recounted his involvement in post-Hurricane Katrina relief work and a recent visit to a local business that supported those efforts. He wrote, “After Katrina, I helped turn an old, rusted-over Kmart into a surge hospital for evacuees. Home Depot gave us the fluorescent lightbulbs we needed on trust. Today, I got to meet some of the employees at that same Home Depot!”
Later that day, Cassidy addressed concerns over student loan debt in the United States. In his post from August 7, 2025, he stated: “Thanks to Democrats’ irresponsible student loan schemes, student loan delinquency rates hit a record high. This is why we need @POTUS’s One Big Beautiful Bill. By addressing the root causes of the student loan crisis, the OBBB enables students to avoid insurmountable debt.” Recent data has shown rising delinquency rates among borrowers as pandemic-era relief measures have ended and repayment requirements resumed.
On August 8, 2025—coinciding with Purple Heart Day—Cassidy expressed gratitude toward military personnel and their families. He posted: “I’m grateful every day for those fighting to defend our freedom. On Purple Heart Day especially, we honor those wounded or killed in action, and their families. Your sacrifices will not be forgotten.” Purple Heart Day is observed annually on August 7th to recognize U.S. service members who have been wounded or killed in combat.
Senator Cassidy represents Louisiana in the U.S. Senate and has previously worked as a physician before entering public office.
