U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy spoke on Apr. 1 to members of the Turning Point USA Chapter at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette about his efforts to promote conservative values and continue Charlie Kirk’s legacy in Washington.

The meeting provided students with an opportunity to hear from Cassidy, who serves as chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. The senator discussed his work in Congress and emphasized principles he said are important for the nation’s future.

“Charlie Kirk advocated for the next generation to stand in faith, defend freedom, and stay true to American values,” said Dr. Cassidy. “I’m supporting those principles in Washington for a better future for us all.”

Cassidy also led a group of 14 Republican senators nominating Charlie Kirk for inclusion in the National Garden of American Heroes due to what they described as his historic contributions. He was welcomed by chapter president Louis Cohn, who thanked him for attending and said, “We were excited to host Senator Bill Cassidy to talk about his time serving Louisiana in the U.S. Senate and about civic engagement.”

According to the official website, Cassidy co-founded the Greater Baton Rouge Community Clinic which provides free health and dental care according to his office. He has focused on initiatives aimed at reducing health care costs, supporting coastal restoration projects, and reforming mental health systems according to information from his office.

Cassidy is also a member of several Senate committees including Finance; Energy and Natural Resources; and Veterans Affairs as noted by his official biography. He earned both undergraduate and medical degrees from Louisiana State University according to public records, has three children with his wife—a retired breast cancer surgeon—and enjoys spending time with their grandchild as reported by his office.

As chair of key committees and through community initiatives such as founding a clinic for underserved populations according to official sources, Cassidy continues involvement both nationally through legislation and locally through service.
