U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D., posted a series of statements on August 19, 2025, addressing federal policy on gender transitions for minors and the importance of medical research funding.
In his first post, Cassidy expressed support for President Trump’s actions regarding gender transition procedures for children. On August 19, 2025, he wrote: “President Trump is delivering on his promise to protect children from dangerous gender transitions. As chair of the HELP Committee, I will continue to work with @POTUS to stop the chemical and surgical mutilation of our children.” Cassidy currently serves as chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee.
Later that day, Cassidy highlighted the economic benefits of medical research. At 17:15 UTC on August 19, he stated: “Medical research saves money in the long-term, and continued federal support for biomedical innovation is essential to discovering new lifesaving treatments.”
In another message posted at the same time, Cassidy referenced his background as a liver doctor and commented on recent developments in his field: “As a liver doctor who practiced for decades, I’m very aware of the significance of this development. It will save a tremendous amount of money and disease burden, including transplantation and death.”
Federal investment in biomedical research has historically led to advancements in treatment options and improved health outcomes across various diseases. The debate over gender-affirming care for minors remains contentious in U.S. politics; several states have enacted or proposed restrictions on such treatments in recent years.
Cassidy’s comments reflect ongoing discussions about healthcare policy priorities at both state and federal levels.
