U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, spoke with pro-life advocates at the annual Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America Gala on Apr. 30 to highlight ongoing initiatives aimed at protecting women and unborn children from abortion.
The event brought together lawmakers and supporters to discuss legislative actions related to abortion policy and drug regulation. The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee works to legislate on public health, education, workforce issues and retirement programs with the goal of protecting health and supporting worker rights, according to the official website.
Cassidy addressed attendees about his investigation into chemical abortion drug manufacturers as well as his efforts urging the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to address illegal sales of unapproved or counterfeit abortion drugs online. He said earlier this year he led a hearing with Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill focusing on potential dangers posed by chemical abortion drugs for women.
“As a doctor, caring for a pregnant mother means caring for two patients,” said Dr. Cassidy. “I’ve worked hard with my Republican colleagues to stop taxpayer-funded abortions, protect women from dangerous abortion drugs, and uphold the pro-life values that Louisianans share.”
Cassidy has an A+ rating on Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America’s 2025 National Pro-Life Scorecard. In addition to Cassidy’s remarks at the gala were fellow Senate Republicans Jim Banks of Indiana; Ted Cruz of Texas; Steve Daines of Montana; Lindsey Graham of South Carolina; Josh Hawley of Missouri; Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi; James Lankford of Oklahoma; Ashley Moody of Florida; Tim Scott of South Carolina; as well as Speaker Mike Johnson.
The committee influences federal regulations affecting health and education across the United States according to its official website. It also provides oversight over federal laws in these areas while overseeing agencies such as FDA and NIH according to information available online.
