John Kennedy, U.S. Senator representing Louisiana, addressed several political and social issues in a series of posts on his X (formerly Twitter) account on November 12 and 13, 2025.
In a post dated November 12, 2025, Kennedy commented on recent developments concerning gender participation in sports: “Most people understand that it’s unsafe and unfair to let biological males compete against women in sports. The International Olympic Committee is reportedly doing the right thing—and it’s about time they did.”
Later that day, Kennedy criticized the pace of legislative action in the Senate. On November 12, he wrote: “The U.S. Senate needs to get off its ice-cold, lazy butt and pass another reconciliation bill. We don’t need ANY Democratic votes to do this. That’s how we passed the One Big Beautiful Bill. It’s the best way for us to rise to the occasion and address the issues Americans care” Reconciliation bills allow certain budget-related legislation to pass with a simple majority in the Senate without being subject to filibuster rules.
On November 13, Kennedy turned his attention to compensation during government shutdowns: “I think it’s the height of hypocrisy that Members of Congress were paid through the government shutdown, but our military and air traffic controllers were left twisting in the wind. That’s not leadership.” During previous federal government shutdowns, members of Congress have continued receiving pay while many federal employees—including military personnel and air traffic controllers—have faced delayed or suspended salaries.
Kennedy’s comments reflect ongoing debates within U.S. politics regarding fairness in sports policy, legislative procedures such as reconciliation bills—which require only a simple majority for passage—and compensation practices during government shutdowns.
