Senator John Kennedy has recently taken to social media to express his concerns about the funding and operations of public broadcasting organizations, specifically NPR and PBS. Through a series of tweets, Kennedy criticized these entities for allegedly using taxpayer money to further political agendas rather than providing unbiased reporting.

In a tweet dated June 17, 2025, Kennedy stated that despite receiving substantial taxpayer funding, “One would think that receiving billions of dollars from taxpayers would motivate NPR and PBS to publish fair reporting that the American people can use.” He argued that these organizations are instead advancing their own political objectives. “Instead, these organizations are using taxpayer money to advance their own political agendas.”

Further expressing his stance on the issue, Kennedy introduced legislative measures aimed at addressing what he perceives as biased content funded by taxpayers. On the same day, he announced the introduction of the No Propaganda Act through another tweet: “To make sure no new money is allocated to the CPB, I introduced the No Propaganda Act to permanently defund the CPB.” He emphasized that while NPR and PBS have the right to publish their perspectives, they should not be financially supported by residents of Louisiana or other states.

Additionally, in another post made simultaneously on June 17, 2025, Kennedy highlighted former President Trump’s actions regarding federal funding for public broadcasting. He noted: “That’s why President Trump has paused federal funding to NPR and PBS and asked Congress to formally rescind previously allocated funding.” The senator urged the Senate to act promptly in support of Trump’s request for rescission.
