John Kennedy, U.S. Senator from Louisiana, used his Twitter account to express criticism of government spending and leadership within the Democratic Party in a series of posts on July 15 and 16, 2025.
In a post dated July 15, Kennedy commented on Republican efforts to reduce federal expenditures, stating: “If Republicans can’t come together to cut one tenth of 1% of the budget, we ought to hide our head in a bag.”
Later that evening, he addressed concerns about the federal bureaucracy and its relationship with Congress and former President Donald Trump. Kennedy wrote: “The bureaucracy has become a giant, rogue beast. President Trump and his team caught it—and it’s time for Congress to help fight it.”
On July 16, Kennedy shifted focus to Democratic Party leadership, referencing New York State Assembly member Zohran Mamdani and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. He posted: “Everybody had a kid in their class growing up who ate paste. The problem is that Zohran Mamdani and Rep. Ocasio-Cortez both grew up to be the leaders of today’s Democratic Party—and the rest of the party has no idea what to do.”
Senator Kennedy is known for his outspoken style and frequent commentary on fiscal policy as well as partisan dynamics in Washington. His recent statements reflect ongoing debates over government spending and intra-party leadership struggles that have been prominent issues during recent congressional sessions.
