U.S. Senator John Kennedy has recently posted a series of tweets criticizing Democratic lawmakers for their approach to border security and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding, attributing recent national security incidents to these policy decisions.
On March 25, 2026, Kennedy wrote, “For the past month, Democrats have been trying to defund DHS—and since, America has faced at least four apparent terrorist attacks. This shutdown isn’t a harmless act of gamesmanship. It’s incredibly dangerous. My latest @FoxNewsOpinion: https://t.co/6FChtnCCeO”.
Later that day, he added, “The Democrats in control of the Democratic Party believe in open borders. They believe that vetting people at the border is racist. They only believe in following federal law if they agree with it. Here’s proof. https://t.co/EPXg6xuUjV”.
On March 26, 2026, Kennedy continued his criticism by stating, “The Biden administration released at least 99 known individuals from the terrorist watchlist into America. Yet DHS, which employs the very people hunting these lone wolves, is shut down because of a Democrat temper tantrum. https://t.co/6FChtnCCeO”.
Senator Kennedy represents Louisiana and holds several leadership roles within Senate committees on appropriations, banking, budget and judiciary according to his official website. He has an academic background that includes degrees from Vanderbilt University and Oxford University as well as a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. In addition to his legislative work, Kennedy contributes to education as an adjunct professor and substitute teacher and has authored works on constitutional law and state liability statutes.
Kennedy’s remarks come amid ongoing debates over immigration policy and government funding measures affecting agencies such as DHS.
