Natchitoches Regional Airport Receives Airport of the Year Award

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced the winner of General Aviation Airport of the Year for 2022 is Natchitoches Regional Airport. To be considered eligible, an airport must have responsibly addressed all maintenance inspection issues, managed all significant safety-related features, and made a significant impact on aviation through safety improvements/practices, construction, development, or management of aviation resources. The award was presented on October 25 in Lafayette, LA by Brad Brandt, Director of Aviation for the DOTD. Present to receive the award were Mayor Ronnie Williams, Airport Director, Edd Lee, Airport Manager, Larry Cooper and Airport Commissioners Jack McCain, Cliff Rice, and Stanley Salter.

Natchitoches Regional Airport is residence for several significant operations that serve the community and region. Nor-Wes agricultural flight operations, Air Data Solutions aerial mapping and photography, Air Evac air ambulance medical service, and the LA state fire patrol are significant tenants. In addition, several local business base aircraft on the airport to support their operations. Large corporations with investment in the region (timber, poultry, manufacturing) connect through Natchitoches Regional on a frequent basis. The airport has earned a reputation for providing good service with excellent facilities for transient aircraft.

The airport has recently completed several projects. Runway, ramp and taxiway rehabilitation, obstruction removal, and perimeter fencing have made significant improvements. Federal and state funding enable the projects with little or no city investment. The airport offers an important gateway to the city that attracts businesses and enhances tourism by easy access.
